These four images have been haunting my thoughts.

From my beautiful 1964 LIFE Nature Library book of Evolution

“Their bodies painted, and wearing head-dresses of bark or hide, four Onas dress up as ghosts for a ceremony initiating young men into the tribe. The last one, representing a baby, is covered with tufts of feather.”

The Onas are from Tierra del Fuego (Land of Fire) near Cape Horn.
